A Brief History of Gabriel

• Gabriel is the youngest of the archangels, his older brothers are Lucifer, Michael and Raphael. They spent a great deal of their time in the Garden. He grew up much closer to Lucifer in nature, and so Lucifer took him under his wing. Gabriel idealised Lucifer who taught him how to play pranks and tricks on the other angels.
• The four of them were the weapons God sent against creatures such as the Darkness and the Leviathans. Later, Gabriel was sent to Sodom and Gomorrah and Egypt to teach humans the errors of their ways.
• Gabriel was fascinated by humans- the way they thought and how they behaved. Unfortunately, Lucifer and their Father did not see eye to eye regarding the humans, and Lucifer was eventually kicked out of Heaven and sealed in the Cage.
• Dad became more and more distant and left Michael to do much of the running of Hell. Gabriel and Michael disagreed on a lot of fundamentals, and as Raphael sided with Michael more often than not, Gabriel realised he had to leave.
• Gabriel came to Earth after completing the two major tasks his Father had given him; heralding the arrival of Jesus, and delivering his message to Mohammad (PBUH).
• Gabriel's vessel was a poor man living in modern-day France, whose name may have been Gervaise.
• Gabriel made himself friendly with the Norse pantheon, taking on the persona of Loki, the trickster god. He had a lot of adventures in this guise, living in Scandinavia for the most part with various Norse goddesses or Ice Giantesses and, famously, a Horse Spirit.
• During this time Gabriel had children, despite this being a big no-no in Heaven. His kids include Hel (who puts up with none of his crap), Fenrir (Gabe has always loved anything canine), Jörmungandr (a slippery character) and Sleipnir (who always remembers mother's day).
• As Christianity began to take hold in Europe, Gabriel headed out. He hooked up with Kali and lived with her in India for several hundred years as her consort. Kali was definitely the one in charge of the relationship. It didn't last though, and so Gabriel left the Old World and went to America to start hassling the humans there, becoming known as Trickster.
• He hung out in South America for a while, and then moved North in the 1700s, beginning to teach humans little lessons when he thought human justice was failing. 
• Fast forwards to the present day- Gabriel's keeping an eye on the Winchesters and the Campbells, just like Heaven and Hell, because as soon as Sam and Dean become vessels for Michael and Lucifer, the civil war between the Angels will effectively be over. Gabriel thought that there was nothing he'd want more than that, more than the end of the conflict before his siblings. And then he discovered that he was a complete asshole. The rest is history.
