[ Welcome to Gabriel's weird little pocket reality Dad. It's the place where he hid his wing while he was Paganing, and although it's really no larger than your average living room, it seems bigger. Probably because it isn't anything- just a white space. No discernable shape, no ceiling. There's only the hint of a corner because Gabriel is huddled in it, wings pulled around himself knees tucked into his chest.
There's feathers on the floor. He picked out some of the loose ones. Then kept going. It didn't hurt as much as everything else, and the sharp tugs gave him something else to focus on, pulling out a feather and letting it drop to the floor before working on the next, working it loose.
The fact Dad is here now doesn't have much of an impact. His wings shift slightly, a twitch at the sound of his name, but no more than that. He isn't Michael who would snap to attention at Dad's call, or Lucifer who would probably be throwing things at this point. Gabriel loves very easily, too easily, for an archangel. That's why this hurts too much for him to be able to really process. ]
Then He's reaching down, picking up each feather with gentle hands. Usually He could fix Gabriel's wings without a thought, but He has limits here, He's found, and turning Gabriel into a turkey wouldn't help this situation at all.
It takes some time to pick them all up and he works in silence. When He has them all, He'll sit next to Gabriel and start piecing him back together, feather by feather.
[ Gabriel wings twitch once more when Dad steps forwards, begins to pick up the discarded feathers. This time though it's to open a gap between them so Gabriel can watch Chuck move, and then once Chuck sits, Gabriel will unfurl the wings slightly, so that his Father can ease each one back to where it should be.
The silence drags on, although here there is no time, so perhaps it doesn't at all. There's nothing Gabriel wants to say about the reason he's hidden away here, there's absolutely no words that can make it better or help with the pain. Dad probably knows that himself. The only thing you can do it distract yourself.
And right now, with his head feeling too heavy and his Grace in turmoil, it's very hard not to be reminded of very recent events]
[There are moments where words aren't enough, and this is one. Chuck's grief is not lessened to see that Gabriel shares at least part of it, but it makes Him feel a little less alone.
He smoothes each feather as He replaces it, healing the wings and comforting the Grace beneath.]
[Gabriel had expected objections, or at least obvious disapproval. Lucifer had always made comments, Michael doesn't know how to hide how he feels. But the fact nothing like that comes from Dad is something of a relief. The tension in Gabriel ebbs a little, and he lets go of a deep breath]
He is. Just because. He just does the right thing.
[It'll come later, maybe. His reconciliation with Lucifer back on Earth has led Chuck to look at His relationship with His sons in a new way. There are revelations to be had there, when He's thought through it.]
I'm glad he makes you happy.
[And with that, He smoothes the last feather into place.]
[ Gabriel tugs at at the wing, not to try and dislodge the feathers, not when Dad has so careful put them back where they belong, not when his Grace as at least stopped churning inside him like a sea in a storm. But this is all still so unpleasant.
Thoughts of Greg make him feel better. The fact that dad sees that Greg is good and kind... well, Gabriel doesn't need to be told that by anyone, but the fact that Greg is a thing from Creation, a thing that is real and wonderful and Gabriel can love him, that is something to hold onto. ]
[No, he shouldn't. But Gabriel doesn't care who told him or when they told him. It's not important. It's just another way for them to start fighting. And now there's nothing left to fight over.
